An
education and cultural institution for all
Americans/Canadians of Ukrainian descent,
Soyuzivka provides programs for both
informal and academic settings, including
workshops, seminars, camps demonstrations,
art shows and concerts for all those
interested in learning about the Ukrainian
heritage. For over 50 years, Soyuzivka has been
providing this service to the Ukrainian
community and remains an important gathering
place.
Visitors of all nationalities and
participants are introduced to the rich
ethnic traditions and unique customs of both
past and present. Our Center provides a
unique opportunity to those of Ukrainian
descent of those simply interested in
expanding their knowledge about Ukraine to
learn this heritage at one unique location.
It is a place where people of Ukrainian
decent
meet other Ukrainians, especially the youth,
where pride in one's cultural background is
fostered and instilled.
For decades,
Soyuzivka has served this role.
Soyuzivka's programs
allow the community
to partake in these cultural events at a
low cost. However, with increasing fixed
costs, operating expenses and other market
pressures, The UNA can no longer subsidize
the operation and these programs.
The executive Board, therefore, recognized
the need to preserve the programs and Soyuzivka, but recognized that they alone
could not finance the operation. As such,
the foundation was formed and incorporated
in 2005 with the intent to preserve the
cultural treasure in perpetuity. This way,
future generations will be able to continue to
participate in the cultural experience
Soyuzivka
provides. We want to continue to
promote self-esteem and pride among
Americans of Ukrainians decent.
We are pleased we can share our rich culture
with the public at large. The United States
is a mosaic of culture, and it is the goal
of Soyuzivka to promote a greater
understanding between all people, which make
our country the a true cultural melting
pot. |
